The work of Mary Hughes, although abstract, is based on landscape and the
natural world. In her work, she layers line, shape and form to create the
illusion of depth while letting the history of the process stay visible.
Her current work evolved from drawings of rock formation, leaving behind
the representational nature of the form and focusing on the linear
qualities and the two-dimensional patterning. She was the recipient of a
Fulbright Scholarship to Ireland and has exhibited her work extensively in
the New England area. She currently lives and woks in Boston,
