The Final Installations - Chang Hai International, Beijing, and the Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahmedabad, India

Dear Fellow Artist,

We invite you to participate in the last installations of The Tile Project, Destination: The World, which will be at the newly built Chang Hai International in Beijing, and the Kanoria Centre for Arts in Ahmedabad, India.

This invitation is transferable and open to all. Please help us to ensure that as many artists and as many countries as possible are represented at these installations by copying, posting, plastering, forwarding, emailing and distributing this invitation by any means possible.



To be included in TransCultural Exchange’s The Tile Project, Destination: The World:

  1. PARTICIPATION IS FREE. Please read through all instructions before proceeding.
  2. To be included in the installation in Beijing, please send 1, water-proof, 10 cm square (4 ¼” square) tile to

    Please note that the address for the tiles to be sent to China has changed. The tiles need to be sent to our Boston contact for customs considerations. TransCultural Exchange will assume the shipping costs for shipping your tile on to China.

  3. Tiles for China must be sent to be received in The US (not postmarked) no later than June 14, 2008. Any tile received after this date will not be included in the project, nor returned to the artist.
  4. And/Or to be included in the installation in India, please send 1, water-proof, 10 cm square (4 ¼” square) tile to:

  5. Tiles sent to India must be received (not postmarked) by June 28, 2008. Any tile received after this date will not be included in the project, nor returned to the artist.


PLEASE NOTE: You are welcome to send a tile to one or both installations. (Only one 10 sq. cm tile per artist/per installation will be accepted.) All tiles must be able to withstand outdoor conditions. (Hence, ceramic or glass tiles are preferred.)

Due to cultural considerations, representations of nudity or overt political content cannot be included in the project. Any tile that does not adhere to these restrictions will not be included in the installations or returned to the artist. TransCultural Exchange reserves the right to reject any tile that is not in keeping with the organization’s standards and objectives.

  1. You must assume the cost of shipping your tile to the installation site in Ahmedabad and to East Boston for the installation in China. Tiles must be sent in packages marked “no commercial value/gift.” Any tile with a declared value can not be accepted and will not be included in The Tile Project, Destination: The World.
  2. You must agree that the artists who will design the installation in Beijing and Ahmedabad have your permission to install your tile as part of a composite public art work of their own design, making and choosing.
  3. At no cost to you, TransCultural Exchange will promote the project through its website, extensive press releases, related cultural exchanges and public outreach programs. TransCultural Exchange’s website and all press releases will list you as a participant in the project.
  4. You must provide TransCultural Exchange with a letter or email confirming that you are sending a tile to the Kanoria Centre for Arts and/or East Boston for the China installation to be listed as a participant artist on The Tile Project's website. However, no artist will be listed on the website until the arrival of their tile is confirmed by Cantrell in Boston and/or the Kanoria Centre for Arts. (If you would like us to link your website to ours, please include your website with your letter or email of confirmation. Web links can not be added at a later date.)
  5. Only the original 100 artists’ tiles will be individually reproduced on the website; although pictures of the installation at Chang Hai International and the Kanoria Centre for Arts will be uploaded to the website shortly after their opening ceremonies.

  8. DO NOT SENT YOUR TILE TO TRANSCULTURAL EXCHANGE’S OFFICE. Your tile must be sent directly to the addresses noted above. Tiles sent to TransCutlural Exchange’s office will not be forwarded to the installation sites or returned to the artists.
