About the Tile: “Together as One”
The tile design concept is about the merging of many elements to make one.
I chose to use a circular shape
to appear in different fragmented configurations to represent the similarities
and differences of the
diversity of American culture. We, like the tiles, function both individually
and as one. We complement
one another; we complete one another.
The tiles are handmade in porcelain and have my fingerprints and lifeline
impressed into them. Each tile
also has black slip inlayed in the design. I wanted simplicity of the design
carried in just black and
white.
