The idea of “place” is central to my work. My images of the City
are familiar places of my
everyday life, in which my physical perspective within the space is a defining
element. About
to descend subway steps, passing a building entranceway at night and being
halfway across
a street are all “places” for me. My work tries to hold onto what
is usually a fleeting
awareness of perspective in both senses of the word, as a physical pictorial
tool and an
individual vantage point. For The Tile Project my rather large scale paintings
were transferred into a small format using new digital technology, some
tiles being full images of paintings and some details. These small
pieces of New York City join other small pieces of places around the
world to make the statement that the whole can be greater than the sum of
its parts.
