Image: Hege Dons Samset We are Having Weather Of their project, the artists write, “The goal of the project is for individuals to explore how their moods are affected by the weather and to communicate this to each other using photographs…[as a way of] ‘getting to know you’ and also an exercise in using photography to communicate emotion.” Taking place over approximately six months, starting with the summer solstice on June 23, 2008, We Are Having Weather is a photo-based blog that presents weather-related photos from around the globe. Photos are contributed by sets of partners from different locales, one photo per person per day, with each team contributing for two weeks. The photos from one day respond to and build upon those from the last, so that the series begins to show a path through the participants’ lives—through both their physical and emotional environments. We Are Having Weather seeks to draw people in disparate locations together by enabling them to share without actually being in the same place. Networking—particularly via the Internet—has made a new kind of long-distance relationship possible, and this project exploits this opportunity. The weather seems a fitting subject around which to start these relationships, since whether or not we are aware of it, weather patterns have always connected one place to another, and the sun, rain, snow or wind is affecting each of us every day.
